The Spencer Twins

The Adventure Begins!

It’s Saturday morning May 31st and we have prepared the kids for their first car ride and coming home. It’s a very exciting day and nerve-racking as we are leaving the comforts of the hospital and their staff to do this on our own. At the house were both grandma’s cooking, cleaning, and generally anticipating our arrival. It was a tremendous help to have them both there so we could catch up on some sleep and have extra hands to nurture the kids.

It’s now May 29th, 2008 and the kids are born after 23hrs of labor. Brady was first out at 1:57am, weighing 6lbs and followed up with Corryn 17mins later 2:14am, weighing 5lbs, 1oz. After mom was wheeled into her room, she was finally able to eat a meal for the first time in 44hrs. She survived on ice chips while in the hopsital.

Our day started off around 3am with Suzy feeling her water had been broken. Because there was not a large amount she held off waking me and seeing if  contractions were starting. By 430am she woke me and I showered and we called her OBGYN. While showering, the big water break occurred. Her OB asked that we wait until contractions are a few minutes apart, otherwise the hospital could send us home. We called Rod and Paula and asked if we could come by if we did get turned away, as they live within 10mins of the hospital.

We spent the next few hours getting ourselves together, even though Suzy was well prepared, and reflecting on how we got to this day and what the future will hold. By 7am, I suggested we go since we have a 45min drive and it was during the week, so LA traffic is very predictable and unpredictable at the same time. By 830am she was in bed, I went to admittance, and she was not getting up or leaving until the kids were born.

During Suzy’s long 23hr labor, quite a well-wishers stopped in to check in. it was good for everyone to keep all of us company and break up the day. We were all very exciting but trying to stay composed not knowing how long this process woulf take.
